it was probably one of the most eventful year of my entire life because there were so much new things that i had to adapt over and over.
started the year off by travelling with Bren & Bixia. (: although it was kind of a waste that we went with a tour, it was really interesting, i loved the cold, went in a hot spring and got out shivering, shopped and ate a lot. night markets were crazily packed, shoulder to shoulder. wish we didn’t spend so much of the time there on the bus travelling to and fro though! despite that, it was a whole lotta fun. (:

worked at the singapore visitor centre. was there for 7 months and it made me feel like an absolute pro. never been at something for this long before. (: started off at the orchard branch and it wasn’t easy. you may think that you know orchard road inside out but when you’re asked, where the nearest atm is, you’re just like…what? or where the nearest singtel is. HMM. etc. and the city maps took a while to get used to too! where’s the backpacker’s inn? errr. slowwwlyyy search the map. hahahaa.
then i got transferred to the airport which was a nightmare in the beginning. there was a lot to remember, and sometimes i just couldn’t differentiate between t1, t2 and t3. where’s the left baggage? hmmm. skytrain? hmmm. and then i got transferred into the transit area. good god. there was a wholeeeee lot of shops. hahaha.
it didn’t help that while i was new, i was constantly rotated around. so i couldn’t really try to ’study’ my surroundings. i had to leech on the older ones around for quite some time. so whenever someone asked me a question, i had to check with the other staff. quite so embarrassing.
it’s amazing how a while later, everyone thinks the batch of us a level kids waiting for results were better than the old ones. in terms of courtesy and speed, i do so think that we’re better than at least SOME of them. lots of politics. lots and lots. but i still miss that place. it was fun meeting people, doing different shifts, taking cabs, signing body language to those who don’t understand english, being mistaken as a Chinese by Taiwanese, taking pictures with some absolutely adorable Japanese teens who spent about half an hour at the counter with me, etc. (:

i also began tutoring in 2008 and that underwent numerous hiccups as i didn’t realise how tough it was trying to give tuition to someone who couldn’t grasp the concepts. my patience level ran slightly low and i wasn’t really looking forward to each lesson. but it got better and i sure hope she did well!
other eventful things were like:
- keith was bald (LOL)
- seige graduated
- cousin got solemnized
- another cousin gave birth to baby marcus
- caught colbie caillat

- caught contender asia

- NBS FOC
NBS freshmen orientation camp was quite amazing. I dreaded it for ages but had fun while i was there and had amazing support and encouragement to go. Didn’t regret going because of the people I know, always great having people to say hi to while walking from north to south, and having people to ask, having seniors to seek info from, esp since we’re just freshies. (:
and always looking back, it’s like i achieved many things in the camp. like sleeping 10 hours an entire week (AND NOT GETTING A HEADACHE!), sliding down a freakish slope blindfolded, running around NTU, going through fright night (and never going through it EVER AGAIN), walking around katong with six forks in my hair, gazillion photo formations, etc.

I swear this requires a point on itself because it was the most expensive menu i’ve ever seen and it was the first fois gras i had, and everything was just SO SO PRICEY. hahahaa. love it.
I swear this required stamina. 10 freaking hours of camping at fort canning, watching these bands performing before my eyes was such a thrilling experience that i am so excited about this year’s and definitely would go if the line-up is good.

i wasn’t that excited for hall camp, to be honest. i constantly whined about it and compared it to nbs foc. but looking back it wasn’t too bad. and ultimately, it’s the people you see everyday when you walk in and out of your room that you need to get along with and i think i got along just fine with them. (: these camps also made me the darkest i’ve ever gotten. LOL.
I also had to adapt to hall life in 2008. communal living was such a foreign idea that in my first week, i broke down and wanted to go home in the middle of the week. -.- but now i’m just hoping i get to stay next year. the convenience is AMAZING. and well, it’s fun not to be nagged at, and to be able to shout out to a friend or ask if anyone wants to grab lunch together. (: PLUS i have an amaaaazing roomie.

this was another thing that took forever to get used to. for eg, it was odd to be typing out tutorial answers, and not writing them. bringing laptops to class was just a strange concept. haha. and being in formal for presentations, etc. quite strange to grasp. an amazing thing was that the girl i first made friends with in my class is also my very very good friend now, my dear sweet aileen!
yay! just sad she’s not in the same class anymore but we can still go to lectures together

also this deserved a mention as he suffered a lot physically and i was kept away from him for quite a lot, if you compare 2008 with 2007. hahaha. while it got me nothing out of that time apart, at least it got him something! hahaha just kidding. :p but proud of him nonetheless (:

other things like how everyone my age started driving and i got to sit in their rides on the last day of the year. HAHAHA.

alright that’s about all. amazing year it was! i am actually adaptable!!
