letterman vs palin
June 19, 2009Is anyone keeping up with this letterman v palin nonsense?
I’m thoroughly appalled. Here I was typing a wrong URL of ‘uob.com’ sans the .sg and where did I end up at? ‘firedavidletter.com’
Not even kidding.
I can’t believe they’re making such a big deal about this. Since when were jokes taken so seriously. They are considered jokes and punchlines for a reason. Look at all the comedians. They’ve insulted a gazillion people for decades and because this one involved Palin this is blown up into a giant mountain for bullshit reasons.
Well yes, I’m not a fan of Palin but I’m remaining objective here. This is ridiculous that the feminist groups are cultivating hatred towards Letterman for what? Pervertic thoughts, imaginery rape of a 14-year-old.
Seriously what? Is this not blown out of proportion? All he said was that Palin’s daughter was banged up by some athlete. He didn’t expect that the daughter at the game was the 14-year-old and not the 18-year-old.
I’m somewhat feminist myself. I hate it when girls suck up to men. Or when they’re all dressed seductively, skimpily at roadshows simply because sex sells. All the degrading stuff to women pisses me off.
But this is simply RIDICULOUS. Talk about putting words in people’s mouths or blowing things out of proportion or setting double standards.
OR, over-analysis of jokes.
Jokes, made in poor taste or not, are jokes and should remain jokes. He’s been at it for gazillion years, I mean look how old he is. He must be a gazillion years old.
And these sexist jokes are innate, in my opinion. It’s only natural we insult the other gender because no matter what, the other gender do not understand us. In fact, nobody truly understands. So to make these not so blurry, we form stereotypes which fit the gender and make jokes about them.
Then there are the sluts and hoes, etc which are not new. For Letterman to make such jokes doesn’t come surprising since Palin herself got a child out of wedlock. I mean she should’ve seen it coming. In Asian context, that’s seen as a shameful act and will be scrutinised and gossiped about for life.
And this isn’t even a serious talk among family members but this is on a talk show’s comedy section.
I truly pity all talkshow hosts right now, where they have to think extra extra hard when making jokes.
I’m also appalled that the so-called liberal US makes such unliberal comments about how he should not say this or that. He should not make that joke about the 14-year-old. He shouldn’t make fun of even the 18-year-old. Heck he shouldn’t even make fun about women. All women in US hate him now.
Liberalism? Freedom of speech, anyone?
For the love of god, there is no need to fire David Letterman.
