la chef

September 18, 2009

Who knew that France would turn me into a chef?

food in france

But as amazing as my cooking is (HAHA watch the ego), I’m slowly running out of ideas. Shudder. I’m trying to tune down the Asian factor in my cooking too and make use of the groceries easily available here and more uncommon in Singapore. Perhaps it’s time to get some couscous, ravioli, paella or canard. Definitely need more baguette and croissants. Hmm.

Already been eating tons of salad and yoghurt. I fell in love with tomatoes here. Now every salad has tomatoes, eaten fresh. (: Strange!

Hopefully the tuning down of Asian factor in my food is an indication that I’m a little less homesick. Hopefully!

I still find it really tough to appreciate their cheese though. Eep. I’ve tried. I’ve a two euros chunk of Comte cheese and a bottle of wine. But the cheese isn’t as nice as our ordinary cheese (which is probably fake to them), and I haven’t found a corkscrew to open the bottle of wine (which coincidentally is also 2 euros).

I’ve made a list of stuff I miss though, and I shall find various people to hunt for them with me when I’m back. (:

  • Bubble tea
  • Soya bean milk
  • Tau sar pau
  • Tau huay
  • Xiao long bao
  • Sesame tang yuan
  • Tom yum soup
  • Mee sua
  • Nasi lemak
  • Indian rojak
  • Salmon sashimi
  • Chawanmushi
  • Ramen
  • Bibimbap
  • Salted veg soup

Mmm. Oh and I miss spicy food. Hmm.

Random: This time tomorrow I’ll be on a night train to Munich! (:

feliz navidad

December 25, 2008

Wow it’s been a while. And since it’s an hour and a half past midnight, it’s christmas time! (: can’t believe the highly anticipated holiday was here, with all the fun and cheer and usually the anticipation is greater than the day itself.

but it was determined to enjoy it. :D and i did! whee! but here’s what happened the days leading up to this day!

This was last saturday’s dinner (with keith)..

quite enjoyed it because it was my first real christmas party without my family. ((: we had sushi and strange sakae sushi pizza and turkey and gift exchange, etc. (: and the first pic was really of us watching xiao niang re but that’s beside the point.. :X

tuesday, met dear sweet aileen for dinner at disney cafe at anchorpoint and to my absolute delight, they were showing high school musical 2! we practically stayed to watch the entire show. muahahha. i DO like that show! i know everyone hates vanessa hudgens and all but i have absolutely nothing against her. pfft. and aileen was fab company, listening patient to my never ending rattling on and on and on and on…. ((: fun night!

today bro and i decided to get our own christmas dinner so we went down to the supermarket and bought a couple of stuff and came back to prepare and this was our dinner. :D YUM.

christmasdinner

followed by seige’s and my christmas eve tradition, on the 4th or 5th year now… the starbucks visit! we spent about 2 hours in starbucks alone. we lost our telepathy for a while but we’re still as silly as ever. love how the chemistry never goes away. (: if seige were a guy and unrelated to me, i’d be marrying her.

Today was a good good day. Spent a bomb but went home a happy girl despite the emptier wallet. MWAHAHA. Thanks for coming by, Aileen (: Starbucks was gooood! Well deserved treat for me, myself and I! MUAHAHHAA.

PS: It’s so tough buying gifts for others that I WANT. Pffft.

goooood. :)

Maybe I should stick to baking. Sniff. But it’s okay, it was my first shot at it, must not give up!!

Wish I could have the whole holiday to myself, just baking and feeding them to guinea pigs. Too many events, too much time needed. ):

pita dinner

November 27, 2008

here it is! just as i was talking about it. :P here’s my dinner plan!

what’s on the menu was stuffed pita, scrambled eggs and mushroom soup.

i was kind of craving for mushroom soup but had too much to look for so i just bought instant ones. *hangs head* and it wasn’t very satisfying. i’ve got my eye on chicken broth at the supermarket just now, so i think i might try one from scratch if i’ve time, soon! cream of mushroom from scratch? mmmmmm…

Yup so the end product is pretty much this. Was pretty tasty in my opinion. The soup was a little too watery though. Scrambled eggs was the bomb. (:

dsc08179

I’ve lots of ideas, I just need more guinea pigs. :X Can’t be feeding myself all these stuff. hahahhaa. More to come! (:

It’s back to work tomorrow! It’s been four and a half months since I’ve been there. Nervous? Yeahhh. Hope it doesn’t take me too long to snap back into how familiar it felt four and a half months ago!

chocolate cupcakes

November 27, 2008

yesterday, aileen came over to join me in my brand new love for the kitchen. which probably explains the constant grocery shopping and the great amount of time spent in the kitchen.

we decided to bake cupcakes and tried out this recipe and it was fantastic!! much kudos to that. i’m just really sad they weren’t gonna continue updating the site ):

dsc08151

we ran into a little panic in the beginning but once we set up the mixer, the oven and got all the ingredients into place, it was just magic. HAHA. lots of hardwork and our tired feet but it was fun fun fun. (:

and here’s how it went.

the first sign that it was going the right way.

then we were done with the cupcakes, baked and all, did our frosting and here’s aileen doing the frosting.
